Why is important to include device management for MPS?

September 19, 2022

Market and clients are expecting to aggregate this device management to managed print services.

The pandemic boosted the development of Managed Desktop Services or Managed Device Services, known recently by the alias MDS. Naturally, Managed Print Services embrace the management of devices or computers since they are familiar with the lease of many devices for companies.

Achieving the skills to succeed in this strategy is relevant within the current market context. A study from Grand View Research showed that the “global device-as-a-service market size was valued at USD 30.75 billion in 2020 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.8% from 2021 to 2028”.

The results are due to the increasing adoption of cloud services in developing countries, mainly for small and medium-sized companies. “The promising growth prospects of the market can be attributed to the growing demand for a subscription model that can allow end-users to switch from a capital expenditure-based model to an operating expenses-based model and acquire the latest technology,” says.

According to the study, Covid-19 had a positive impact on the market: “the pandemic significantly changed the work dynamics globally, compelling businesses to prioritize the adoption of the cloud and remote working practices to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections”. Also, the pandemic has encouraged digital transformation activities and the adoption of several technologies, such as MDS.

It is not a coincidence that cloud solutions are achieving market share, especially the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, which offers many advantages for print providers and their clients

The importance of diversification

If organizations are familiar with print management solutions, the diversification for other devices, like desktops or notebooks, becomes a natural path, mainly in a hybrid work or home office environment.

For the dealers, the benefit is mainly customer retention, since it means a service that could aggregate in the actual contracts, like the flow of documents’ digitalization. Furthermore, the agreements became more profitable, which is crucial in a constant transformation market in which the clients expect new features.

The cloud and the MDS offer the ability and flexibility to work regardless of localization. That kind of investment also needs the perfect timing to keep the company competitive. We can’t forget that the diversification generates benefits for the final client:

  • Predictable costs – Notebooks or devices outsourcing is a predictable cost, without the need for investments to achieve them.
  • Maintenance – Many outsourcing contracts include maintenance, regardless of the device (printers, notebooks, or desktops). That allows the client to focus on their strategic demands.
  • Current and personalized equipment – The client can choose the type of equipment required for several functions and keep them current, according to their needs.
  • Scalability – Contracts are scalable, which means that if the enterprise grows, it is possible to receive new devices quickly.

Managed Desktop Services or Managed Device Services become a need for many customers. The time to offer that solution and give a smart management for multiple devices.
